Whether you've got regular ear lobe piercings or an unusual ear cartilage piercing, there is a huge choice of ear studs you can wear. Ear studs are widely available in almost any design you can think of, so it’s easy to update your look, add a little sparkle or make a statement. Because of the shape of your ear, there are lots of different types of stud you can wear in ear piercings, from cute ear studs to funky body piercing jewellery.

Classic stud earrings are the most common type of ear stud. They have a butterfly back and are usually a very small gauge - either 0.8mm, 1mm or 1.2mm. This type of earring is usually very cheap but beware of ear piercing studs that are made of cheap metals. Some high street ear studs contain nickel that can really irritate your ears. We recommend looking for silver or steel ear posts which are much more biocompatible. It is also recommended that you only wear these stud earrings in ear lobe piercings not cartilage piercings.
Small barbells also make ideal ear studs. They are great because barbells are manufactured in biocompatible body piercing materials, not the cheap metals you sometimes get in high street ear studs. You can wear a barbell in any ear piercing and you will usually only need a 6 or 8mm barbell. To make sure you get the right length we recommend measuring an ear stud you already own. You can also customize any barbell with threaded accessories, get for a new look.
